We suggest to plan a 4 days trip to Naples to enjoy Capri Island
Capri island, just off the Amalfi Coast, is a popular destination in Italy. It is an island located in the Tyrrhenian Sea off the Sorrento Peninsula on the south side of the Gulf of Naples. The main town Capri that is located on the island shares the name. Capri is the main population centre. In the island you can find natural beauty, ancient ruins and fantastic shopping all together. Capri is the most mundane side of the island: there are luxury shops, night clubs and the famous Piazzetta, the meeting place of the whole island. Anacapri, on the other hand, has a more intimate and reserved atmosphere: it is generally less crowded than Capri. In Anacapri there are Monte Solaro, the Blue Grotto and the Punta Carena lighthouse. On the island there are numerous religious and civil architectures of historical interest. Several archaeological remains testify to the presence of the ancient Romans on the island. The natural environment is characterised by several caves and rocky peaks.
The best time to visit Capri is in late spring (May to mid-June) or early autumn (September to mid-October) – the weather is mild and not too hot and there are fewer tourists. The best amount of time to spend in Capri to see the highlights without rushing is 3 days, 4 days or more if you want to rest and relax. If you only have one day in Capri, including transport from and to the mainland you will be able to see some of the Capro attractions such as the Blue Grotto, the centre of Capri town or visit Anacapri.
Island boat tours usually don’t include entrance to the Blue Grotto, to be paid separately. When booking your visit to the Blue Grotto, please pay attention and read carefully what is included and what is not in the tour to avoid any unwelcome surprises.

There are two ports in Capri. Marina Piccola in the south of the island only accomodates luxury yachts and sailing boats. The main port, where the tourists arrive, is Marina Grande. Located in the north, Marina Grande is a busy harbour in the Tyrrhenian Sea.
Anacapri is situated towards the west side of the island of Capri. The ancient Greek prefix ana- means “up” or “above”, signifying that Anacapri is located at a higher elevation point on the island than Capri (275 m). It is widely recognized for its picturesque, rural tranquility; broad views of the Bay of Naples; and significant historic sites, including Villa San Michele.
There is nothing more impressive in Capri than the magnificent Faraglioni. The Faraglioni in Capri are a real attraction. You can admire them from different panoramic points such as the Belvedere di Tragara, from the gardens of Augustus, or from Monte Solaro but the best way to admire them in their majesty is directly from the sea. The Italian Faraglioni are stacks, a coastal and oceanic rock formation eroded by waves.
The name of the rocks, “Faraglioni”, is thought to stem from the Greek word “Pharos” which basically translates as “lighthouse”. Thousands and thousands of years ago, these kinds of coastal rock formations were used as lighthouses with fires burning at their tops to signal safe navigation.
There are three famous faraglioni in the Bay of Naples, off the island of Capri. Part of the Campanian Archipelago, they are named: Saetta, connected to the island; 109 metres (358 ft) high; Mezzo or Stella; 82 metres (269 ft) high and Scopolo (or Fuori); 106 metres (348 ft) high.
The blue lizard or lucertola azzurra (Podarcis siculus coeruleus) is endemic to this faraglione. Arriving by boat in front of the Faraglioni remains the best and most exciting way to admire them. Even more exciting is to pass under the natural arch of the central Faraglione and according to a legend whoever kisses under the Faraglioni will remain together forever.
The Blue Grotto (in Italian: Grotta Azzurra) is a sea cave on the coast of the island of Capri. The grotto has become one of the most famous natural attractions for its enchanting bright blue waters. It is 60 meters long by 25 meters wide.
The clear blue waters below the boat are 150 meters deep. The unearthly blue light effect is caused by the refraction of daylight through the above water cave opening and a larger submerged opening. The acoustics inside the grotto are famously beautiful.
During the 18th century, the grotto was called Gradola, after the nearby landing place of Gradola. It was avoided by sailors and islanders because it was said to be inhabited by witches and monsters. he cave was formed by the wave action of the sea, as sea water eroded the limestone rock of which the whole island of Biševo is composed.
